My Favorite Things to Annotate in Plus Size Player by Danielle Allen

***

spoilers!

I annotated a lot in Danielle Allen’s latest book Plus Size Player. Three of my favorite things to annotate are below. They all happen to be phrases that the main characters Russ and Nina repeat with each other. The moments are not only cute, but I think these sayings add to the cohesiveness and charm of the book.

The Do You Trust Me? Moments (3 tabs)

“Do you trust me?”
“As far as I can throw you.”

Chapter 2, page 18

“Do you trust me?”
“As far as I can throw you.”

Chapter 10, page 145

“Do you trust me?”
[…]
“Yes,” I breathed.

Chapter 19, page 267

The I Think You Like Me A Little Bit Moments (5 tabs)

Nina teasingly says “I think you like me a little bit” 4 times in the book. Each time, Russ usually responds silently with a chuckle or knowing smile.

“I think you like me a little bit,” I teased.

Chapter 1, page 1

My stomach flipped. “I think you like me a little bit,” I teased.

Chapter 7, page 97

“I think you like me a little bit.” Chuckling, he shook his head.

Chapter 10, page 145

“You got the romance package for us? I think you like me a little bit,” I teased.

Chapter 11, page 147
Here’s where Russ’ response changes from physical to verbal for the first time. It’s a cute moment.

“I think you like me a little bit,” I teased, hoping to mask my accelerated heart rate and the heat creeping up my face.

“It’s more than a little bit,” he admitted before crashing his mouth into mine.

Chapter 20, page 278

The I Got You Moments (8 tabs)

This one is my favorite refrain in the book. Russ can literally get Nina anything money can buy. But when he says, “I got you” to her on multiple occasions, he’s talking about immaterial gifts. What he’s got for Nina is protection, pleasure, assurance, and the most intentional care.

Well…let me backtrack a little. The first time Russ says “I got you” it is about a physical gift, shoes he designed just for her.

“See, you play too much,” he told me, still amused. “And if you didn’t need what I got you, I wouldn’t be giving you this gift, because you’re already feeling yourself too much.”

Chapter 2, page 18

“Just relax,” he said softly. “I got you.” Reaching over, he placed his long, thick fingers on my knee, just below my hemline. Gripping me reassuringly, he gave me a nod. “I got you.”

“You got me?” I murmured, turning my body so that our knees touched.

I told you I got you, and you know I mean it.”

Chapter 2, page 29-30

“Well, I got you.

Chapter 7, page 98

You know I got you. There’s nothing for you to worry about.”

Chapter 10, page 131

I got you, so I’m always going to be up.”

Chapter 19, page 258

I got you,” he said softly as he held me tight. “Put your arms around me.”

Chapter 20 , p 276

But I got you. You’re not being replaced.”

Chapter 21, p 286

I got you. I always got you,” he uttered.

Chapter 26, page 354
