What a Daggermouth character imbibes (and how they imbibe it) is as identifying as their hair color, scars, or tattoos.
Several scenes into Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe, it’s clear that drinks will particularly stand out in the novel.
It’s hard to forget…
- Jaeger pouring compulsory shots of whiskey before conducting meetings at the Wolf’s Den
- Shadera drinking Greyson’s good vodka from the bottle like water
- Callum’s gentleness as he brewed loose-leaf tea (lavender and chamomile) for Lira and served it in a delicate porcelain cup
Annotating Tip: I always annotate food and drink in the books I read. It is such a simple and rewarding habit because food and drink can reveal a lot about what’s going on in a scene or a character’s emotional landscape. Usually, for my food and drink annotations, I just make a quick brush over the words with a uniquely colored highlighter.
